AF Series in Stainless Steel Desulphurisation
AF Series products optimize slag properties in the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD), and Ladle Furnace (LF), enhancing desulphurisation and dephosphorisation in stainless steel production. They are critical for desulphurisation (AOD, LF) to achieve < 0.01% sulphur and they also support dephosphorisation (EAF) despite Cr loss risks.
Their use is optimized to minimize refractory damage and environmental impact.
- AF Series Improve Slag Fluidity: They lower slag viscosity and melting point, improving slag-metal contact for efficient phosphorus (P2O5 → Ca3(PO4)2) and sulphur (S + CaO → CaS + O) transfer.
- AF Series Increase Slag Basicity: They stabilize CaO-rich slag, enabling stable Ca3(PO4)2 formation in dephosphorisation and CaS formation in desulphurisation.
- AF Series Reduce Oxygen Activity: In desulphurisation (AOD, LF), they support a reducing slag environment, lowering oxygen activity to achieve sulphur levels < 0.01% (S + CaO → CaS + O).
- AF Series Minimize Refractory Wear: Lower viscosity reduces furnace lining erosion, ensuring process stability.
In the EAF (oxidizing), AF Series aid dephosphorisation (though rare due to Cr loss risks) by enhancing slag fluidity for P2O5 capture, with limited desulphurisation. In the AOD (oxidizing then reducing), they excel in the reducing stage for desulphurisation, increasing slag fluidity and basicity to achieve < 0.01% sulphur. In the LF (reducing), they support desulphurisation with fluid, basic slag for further sulphur removal.
